More transparency for you – why our sustainability claims are changing.
Environmental and social claims made by TTTM and on TTTM products may correspond to older labeling. Current and precise information in accordance with EU requirements (Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition: EmpCo) can be found here.
What does this mean for products you buy or already own?
TTTM is updating its environmental communications in accordance with the new EU requirements (Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition: EmpCo). Products manufactured before September 1, 2026, may contain environmental and social claims that require further explanation under the new requirements. The necessary evidence was and still is available – what is new is the legal requirement for independent certification and specification directly on the product.
What's changing and why we're providing this page
The EU Directive on Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition (EmpCo) requires from September 27, 2026, that environmental and social claims must be specific, verifiable, and independently certified.
General terms such as "sustainable," "human- or tree-friendly," "upcycled," or "fairly produced" will no longer be permitted without verifiable proof – in both brick-and-mortar and online retail.
We are implementing a dual system here: Where easily possible, we will black out affected sections. Where the entire hangtag/product label would need to be replaced, we will refrain from physically relabeling these products – which would mean material waste. Therefore, we are providing supplementary, clarifying information here. This approach aligns with the official recommendation of the EU Commission (FAQ on the EmpCo Directive, Question 18).

Past Statements – and What They Mean Today
Strikethrough text indicates the original product claims. Below it, you will find the current, EmpCo-compliant version – or an explanation of why a claim has been removed without replacement.
Previous statements – and what they mean today
In the wake of the new EU directive (EmpCo), we have comprehensively reviewed our product texts, hangtags, and communication materials. Our goal is to offer you maximum transparency and replace inaccurate advertising terms with verifiable facts.
Here you will find an overview of how we have specified or completely removed previous advertising claims:
1. Specific StatementsPreviously: "PFC-free"
Today: "No fluorocarbons (PFAS/PFC) / Treated with Nikwax Hydrophobic Down®"
Why? The general term "PFC-free" can be misinterpreted as advertising self-evident facts, as many of these chemicals are already being progressively banned by law. Instead, we transparently state that we do not use harmful fluorocarbons in our down products (such as the Moonquilt or Moonblanket) and instead use the demonstrably powerful but gentler Nikwax impregnation (NHD®).
Previously: "Fair production" / "Fairly and sustainably produced"
Today: "WFTO Member (World Fair Trade Organization) / Own production facility in Bali"
Why? Terms like "fair" or "social" are not legally defined and are therefore subjective. We replace these vague formulations with hard facts: Ticket to the Moon is a certified member of the WFTO. This means that our supply chain and our in-house factory in Bali are subject to regular audits according to strict, internationally recognized fair trade standards.Previously: "Sustainably sourced down" / "Certified down"
Today: "RDS®-certified down (Responsible Down Standard)"
Why? We don't just claim that our down is "sustainable." We always directly name the independent third-party standard. The Responsible Down Standard (RDS) guarantees that the down in our quilts and blankets comes exclusively from operations that strictly adhere to animal welfare (no live-plucking, no force-feeding).
Regarding our Unique Series:
Instead of: "Sustainability meets functionality – Upcycling from parachute fabric to reduce plastic waste."
EmpCo-compliant: "Note on Unique color: Each product in our Unique Edition is absolutely one-of-a-kind. Our experienced seamstresses create them with great attention to detail from residual materials (nylon scraps) that accumulate during the production of our hammocks."
Previously: "Recycled Sil-Nylon 20D"
Today: "Made from 100% recycled polyamide (e.g., GRS-certified)" / "Cords made from recycled industrial waste"
Why? The isolated term "recycled" is considered imprecise and at risk of being challenged under new EU regulations. When consumers read "recycled material," it must be clear: What is the exact recycling percentage? And who verified it? Therefore, we no longer use the mere term "recycled" on our products without context. If a material, such as in our tarps, consists of reprocessed raw materials, we either directly state the underlying independent certificate (e.g., the Global Recycled Standard) including the exact percentage, or we factually describe – as with our bags made from cut-offs – precisely where the reused material comes from.
Previously: "PFC-free material"
Today: "No fluorocarbons (PFAS/PFC)"
Why? On some product pages, we often advertised our fabrics as "PFC-free" in the same breath. Since many of these harmful chemicals are now banned by EU legislation (REACH) anyway, a general "PFC-free" can legally be interpreted as prohibited advertising of self-evident facts. To avoid this, we remove the advertising buzzword and instead transparently explain that we deliberately avoid environmentally harmful fluorocarbons in fabrics and coatings, such as in tarps.
2. Statements removed without replacement
Removed: "Environmentally friendly" / "Honestly sustainable" / "Good conscience"
Why? Statements such as "environmentally friendly" (previously found on our Moon Straps) or "honestly sustainable" (on our King Size hammocks) are classic, generic environmental claims. According to the new EU regulations, such terms may only appear on products if the entire product is certified by a state-recognized Ecolabel. Since our products are made from durable parachute nylon and not from a renewable eco-material, we completely forgo these misleading exaggerations.
Removed: "10-year manufacturer's warranty" (exception: all hammocks whose main material is not Lightest Material)
Why? To circumvent the bureaucratic requirements of the new EU GARAN label for durability guarantees, we have completely removed our blanket 10-year warranty promise on all hangtags, packaging, and in the webshop (for products other than our exempted hammocks). For these items, the regular statutory warranty of 2 years now applies throughout Europe.
Removed: "Tree-friendly" / "Tree-gentle"
Why? On our Moon Straps, we previously advertised with the term "tree-friendly" or "gentle embrace for the bark." Legally, "tree-friendly" can be considered an inadmissible environmental claim. Instead, we now only factually describe the technical function: "The extra-wide webbing optimally distributes the weight and prevents it from cutting into the tree bark."
Removed: "Upcycled" / "100% or partly Upcycling" / "Eco" (e.g., for Eco Bags), "Zero Waste"
Today: "Made from production remnants" / "Crafted from nylon offcuts from our hammocks"
Why? Isolated buzzwords such as "upcycling" or "eco" are considered imprecise, blanket environmental claims under the EmpCo directive. If a customer reads "Eco," they could mistakenly expect recognized eco-certificates or a completely climate-neutral product. Since we do not have a state-approved third-party seal for the clever reuse of our own fabric remnants, we now describe the process purely factually and transparently: We use all suitably sized fabric remnants – the high-quality parachute nylon offcuts generated during the production of our hammocks – and sew them into our bag and travel item collection. This way, we minimize our material waste without adorning ourselves with inadmissible "eco" labels.
Note: Our Eco Bags will be renamed Moon Bags. The packaging will also change slightly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Because the products have already been lawfully placed on the market, the underlying sustainability performance remains unchanged, and a subsequent conversion would consume considerable additional resources – including the possible destruction of already produced labeling materials. This would contradict the goal of sustainable management.
Yes. Evidence for the underlying environmental performance can still be provided. On this page ticketothemoon.com/empco, we transparently show what the respective statements specifically mean and what standards underpin them. See table above.
The European Union has introduced new regulations to ensure that environmental and sustainability claims are clearer, more comprehensible, and easier to understand. These are based on the EmpCo Directive (EU) 2024/825. Additional guidance on its application is provided by the European Commission and the European Consumer Protection Cooperation (CPC) Network.
